India has been a candidate for DrupalCon Asia venues ever since the restart of DrupalCon Asia in Singapore in 2024, making it a shared ambition across the region. That excitement was especially visible during the “What’s Next for DrupalAsia?” Birds of a Feather session at DrupalCon Nara 2025, where community members came together to talk about the future of Drupal events and collaboration across the region.

Since then, many of you have understandably been wondering what happened to the plans for a DrupalCon in India and what January 2027 will look like.

The short answer is: the plans have evolved, but the ambition has not.

After thoughtful discussions around the event, its structure, and the evolving framework for regional Drupal events, we decided that the best way forward was to build on the momentum we already have and create something that brings the Drupal community together in India at scale.

That is how DrupalAsia Connect India 2027 came to be.

A new path, with the same ambition

Bringing a DrupalCon to a new region involves more than choosing a venue and putting together a program. It requires the right organizational foundation, resources, partnerships, and long-term planning to ensure the event can deliver the experience the global Drupal community expects.

As the plans for India continued to take shape, the broader landscape around regional events and organizational structures also evolved. Rather than rushing a decision or putting the community's momentum on hold, we saw an opportunity to take a different path, one that allows us to build something meaningful now while continuing to strengthen the foundations for future possibilities.

And so, instead of waiting, we chose to build.

Introducing DrupalAsia Connect

DrupalAsia Connect is a new regional gathering that builds on a strong foundation of community collaboration across Asia.

DrupalAsia Connect is brought to you by the DrupalAsia Steering Committee, building on the experience, connections, and community spirit of DrupalCon Asia in Singapore and Nara. While the name and format have evolved, the core mission, passion, and enthusiasm that shaped those gatherings remain unchanged.

At its heart, DrupalAsia Connect is about bringing the Drupal community together around a broader vision for the region, connecting people, ideas, organizations, and opportunities from across Asia and beyond. It is a space to learn, contribute, build new relationships, and shape what comes next for Drupal in the region.

DrupalAsia Connect India 2027

The first edition of DrupalAsia Connect will take place in Mumbai, India, from 28–30 January 2027 at IIT Bombay.

Over three days, the event will bring together Drupal contributors, developers, designers, community members, organizations, and partners from India, across Asia, and beyond.

The program will create space for:

• Ideas and conversations through a diverse range of sessions and discussions.
• Learning and experimentation through workshops and practical experiences.
• Contribution by creating opportunities to give back to Drupal.
• Community connections across India, Asia, and the wider global Drupal community.
• New perspectives from speakers, contributors, organizations, and Drupal enthusiasts from around the world.

Our aim is to make DrupalAsia Connect a space where the community can come together, exchange ideas, build relationships, and shape what comes next for Drupal in the region.

And India is where this journey begins.

Building for today and tomorrow

There is a lot of excitement around the possibility of a future DrupalCon in India, and that aspiration remains part of the longer-term conversation.

At the same time, we believe the strongest way to prepare for what comes next is to focus on what we can build today.

DrupalAsia Connect gives us that opportunity. It allows the community to come together, create new connections, welcome new contributors, support our sponsors and partners, and demonstrate what is possible when people across the region come together with a shared purpose.

We are also continuing our conversations with the Drupal Association and the wider Drupal community about how we can work together to strengthen Drupal across Asia and create more opportunities for the region to participate in the global Drupal ecosystem.

Looking ahead

The plans may have evolved, but the excitement and ambition that brought us together in Singapore and Nara continue to shape what we are building today.

Our plans haven't stopped. They've evolved.

We are excited to begin this next chapter with DrupalAsia Connect India 2027 and look forward to building it together with the community.
